James Colvard Pritchett

Mr. James Colvard Pritchett, age 86, of Aragon, GA passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at his residence with his family by his side.

James was born on June 14, 1938, in Maryville, Tennessee, the beloved son of the late Arthur Pritchett and the late Mary Lee Champion Pritchett. He spent his early years in Tennessee and later made his home in Aragon, where he lived for the greater part of his life. A proud veteran, James served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps. He was a devoted member of Hillside Fellowship Church. James had a passion for all things mechanical and loved nothing more than a good day of fishing. He was especially fond of his loyal dog, Dixie, and found joy in the company of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was the owner and operator of PT Trucking, where he put his strong work ethic and mechanical talents to good use. James will be remembered for his steadfast spirit, warm heart, and the legacy of love he leaves behind

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Retha Ely Pritchett; and brother, Dewey Pritchett.

James is survived by his daughter, Theresa Thaxton and her husband, Roy; grandchildren, Nathaniel (Melissa) Thaxton, and Jennifer (Dan) Moore; great-grandchildren, Rachel Thaxton, Luke Thaxton, Daniel Moore, Ava Moore, and Wrenley Moore; sister, Betty (Ken) Walton; brother, Hugh (Jimmie) Pritchett; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for James will be held Friday, May 30, 2025 at 3:00 pm in the chapel of Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Arrington and Rev. Roy Thaxton officiating. His grandson, Nathaniel Thaxton will deliver the eulogy. Interment will follow in the Live Oak Baptist Church Cemetery with Brown-Wright Post #12 American Legion Honor Guard in charge of military graveside rites.

Pallbearers will include Nathaniel Thaxton, Dan Moore, Luke Thaxton, Terry James “Bones” Harcourt, James “Whitey” Thacker, and Arnold Hutchinson. Honorary pallbearers will include Curtis Lewis, Phil Tilley, and Don Thaxton.

The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, May 29, 2025 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
