James “Boody” Spencer, age 89, of Aragon, GA, passed away Sunday morning, January 25, 2026.
Boody was born in Rockmart, Georgia, on June 17, 1936, a son of the late John Skyler Spencer and Susie Lanham Spencer. He spent his entire life in Aragon and retired after years of dedicated service with General Motors.
Boody had a deep love for pitching horseshoes, but his greatest passion began years ago with a desire to play the piano. He often shared his testimony of praying earnestly for God to allow him to play, promising that he would use his gift only for churches and funerals. One night, God revealed to him in a dream how to play the piano. The following morning, Boody went to a neighbor’s home who owned a piano, sat down, and began to play, and he never stopped.
He faithfully shared this God-given talent throughout his life, playing for countless services and teaching others to play, including Heather Free.
In addition to his parents, Boody was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Jo Waits Spencer, brother, Bill Spencer, and sister, Helen Bailey.
Boody is survived by his children, Judy Baker, Jimmy (Danyelle) Spencer, Debra Langston, Wanda (Lynn) Crowder, Brenda (Marshall) Smith, and Lisa (Greg) Mitchell. Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren along with nieces and nephews also survive.
