James Wilbert (J.W.) Eckert

Mr. James Wilbert ( J.W. ) Eckert, age 76, of Rockmart (the VanWert community) passed away Saturday, October 15, 2016 at his residence following a lengthy illness.

He was born in Rockmart, GA on April 12, 1940 a son of the late Wilbert and Bertha Mae Harrell Eckert. Mr. Eckert had lived all of his life in Rockmart and attended Rockmart High School. He retired following a thirty two year career at Engineered Fabrics Corporation. He attended the Rockmart Church of Christ; loved to hunt and to go fishing.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Joan Eckert.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Syble January Eckert of Rockmart to whom he was married on July 24, 1960; son, Eddie Eckert, Rockmart; three daughters: Sonia Lee (Mike) Brown, Conyers, Amy Jill (David) Stone, Taylorsville and Melissa (Thomas) List, Rockmart; one sister, Faye Bell, Rockmart; thirteen grandchildren; twenty two great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at 11:00 am in the chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Minister Josh Clevenger officiating. Interment will follow in Polk Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers will include: David Stone, Thomas List, Matthew Jones, Jesse Smith, Josh Redden and Tyler Hill.

The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 until 8 pm at the funeral home.
