James William (Jim) Mooney

Mr. James William (Jim) Mooney, age 81, of Rockmart passed away Thursday, October 25, 2012 in a Rome medical center.


He was born in Cobb County, GA on July 4, 1931 a son of the late Clarence J. Mooney and Euna Moates Mooney. Mr. Mooney had been a resident of Rockmart since 1974 moving here from Cobb County. He retired in 1990 from the Lockheed-Martin Aircraft Corporation where he worked as a supervisor in quality control. Jim loved to hunt, fish and work in the garden. He was a member of the True Fellowship Nondenominational Church.


Survivors include his wife, Barbara McCown Mooney of Rockmart to whom he was married on June 14, 1974; daughter, Joanne Hutchins, Rockmart; two sons: Jimmy Mooney, Alpharetta and Dennis Dewayne Mooney, Cartersville; sister, Geraldine Cox, Marietta; two brothers: Trenton Mooney, Acworth and Doyle Mooney, Douglasville; five grandchildren: Christopher Hutchins, Clay Mooney, Adam Mooney, Lance Mooney and Destiny Mooney; and a special great great niece, Peyton Gentry.


Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 27, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with George Lee, Leslie Pulley and Scott Hamilton officiating. Interment will follow in the New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery.


Active pallbearers will include: Phil McCutcheons, Joel Waters, Paul Sorrells, Jerry Ferguson, Chris Martin, Max Moss, Todd McCleaery and Tim Sosbee. Honorary Pallbearers will include: Ira Rose, Leonard Shaw, Camby Clark, Paul Thain, Larry Sosbee, Tim Nelson and Bill McCown.


The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.


Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Emory Winship Cancer Institute, 1365-C Clifton Rd., NE, Atlanta, GA 30322.


The Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements for the funeral of Mr. James William (Jim) Mooney.
