James Gary Wood

Mr. James Gary Wood, age 77, of Cedartown, GA, passed away Friday morning, November 21, 2025, at his residence.

Mr. Wood was born in Cedartown on October 15, 1948, son of the late John Elmer Wood and Charolette Wright Wood. He had been a resident of Polk County for the greater part of his life and was the owner and operator of J.G. Wood Grading and Hauling. Mr. Wood was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. He loved to travel, play golf, watch western movies, and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. Above all, Mr. Wood cherished his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Wood was preceded in death by a niece, Angie Free Butler.

Mr. Wood is survived by his wife of almost 58 years, Dorothy Carter Wood, whom he married on December 8, 1967; three sons, Lance Anderson (Dawn) Wood, Anthony Tyson (Cameron) Wood, and James Benjamin (Carey) Wood; three granddaughters, Erica, Rebecca, and Charolette; brother, Michael Wood. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Wood will be held on Monday afternoon, November 24, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Alvie Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Wright officiating. Interment will follow in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Wood’s family will receive friends at Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home Sunday evening, November 23, 2025, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m.

Pallbearers will include Tracey Warren, Jason Long, Gerald Free, Tony Broome, Brad Wood, and Chad Swafford. Honorary pallbearers will include Ricky Brown, Nick Morris, Ronnie Burleson, Andy Butler, Luke Fleenor, Royce Coe, and Matthew Fleenor.
