Mrs. Jane Carter, age 80, a former resident of Silver Creek, GA, passed away Friday, January 2, 2026, in Augusta, GA.
Mrs. Carter was born on August 3, 1945, in Aragon, Georgia, the loving daughter of the late Samuel B. Chappell and Elmina Maxwell Chappell. She spent much of her life in Silver Creek and had lived in Stapleton, GA, for the past two years. A member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church, Mrs. Carter was known for her kind heart and quiet faith. She worked as a seamstress with Alterations Express and found comfort and joy in sewing. Most of all, she cherished time with her family, especially the precious moments shared with her grandchildren, who brought her so much happiness.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by brothers, Jess Lee Chappell, Ronald Chappell, Wilburn Chappell, Ray Chappell, and Ralph Chappell, sisters, Frances Edwards and Josephine Shinall, and son-in-law, Bobby Moman.
Mrs. Carter is survived by two daughters, Terrie (Wayne) Breeden, and Dixie Story; grandchildren, Josh (Allie) Cauthen, Katie (Gary) Hibberts, Haden Morris, Allen (Anna) Bell, Dylan (Katelyn) Breeden, and Trae (Cheyanne) Breeden; great-grandchildren, Hank Cauthen, Jace Cauthen, Annabelle Hibberts, Aisleigh Hibberts, Hudson Davis, Cole Bell, Jace Bell, Haliegh Bell, Benton Bell, Sadie Breeden, Sierra Breeden, Sawyer Breeden, and Oakley Breeden; sisters, Sarah Caine, Brenda Copeland, and Sharon (Hershel) Morrow. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Graveside and interment services for Mrs. Carter will be held on Wednesday afternoon, January 7, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. in the Mt. Tabor Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Billy Chambers officiating.
