Mrs. Jo Anne Haynie Cassell, age 71, of Gates Drive, Rockmart, passed away Monday, September 12, 2011 in a Rome medical center.


She was born in Atlanta, GA on July 21, 1940 a daughter of the late Newell Lamar Haynie and Clara Turner Haynie. Mrs. Cassell had been a resident of Rockmart for the past seventeen years moving here from Powder Springs where she and her family had made their home for twenty five years. Mrs. Cassell was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rockmart. She was a former employee of the Cobb County Board of Education and was also a former employee of Cobb General Hospital. Mrs. Cassell was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Cassell in 2005 to whom she was married on July 25, 1958 and by a son Russell Cassell in 1984.


Survivors include her daughter, Shannon Matthews and husband Dennis, Aragon; three grandchildren: Amanda Welch Woodham (Brandon), Rockmart, Adam Welch (Shana), Rockmart and Blake Matthews (Amber), Rome; great granddaughter, Addison Woodham; sister, Janet Helms (Randy), Douglasville; nieces, Shelly Crager (Matt), Newnan and Mandy Chapman (James), Douglasville.


Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 15, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Brent Thompson officiating and her daughter, Mrs. Shannon Matthews delivering a eulogy. Interment will follow in the Powder Springs Cemetery.


Pallbearers will include: Adam Welch, Blake Matthews, Brandon Woodham, Randy Helms, Matt Crager and James Chapman.


The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.


The Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements for the funeral of Mrs. Jo Anne Haynie Cassell.
