Joan Purser

Mrs. Martha Joan Purser, age 80, of Rockmart, GA, passed away Saturday evening, March 7, 2026, at her residence.

Mrs. Purser was born in Rockmart on February 10, 1946, a daughter of the late Rufus Milford Garrett and Lelia Pearl Lee Garrett. She lived her entire life in Polk County and was a devoted member of Bellview Baptist Church, where she faithfully served as the church pianist and as a Sunday School teacher. Joan was a faithful Christian with a true servant’s heart.

Mrs. Purser retired from SunTrust Bank to devote herself fully to her family, embracing her cherished roles as a mother and grandmother. She was also a member of the Rockmart Kiwanis Club.

Joan enjoyed spending time with her friends playing Words With Friends and Bubble Pop, and she loved playing bingo at the nursing home. In her spare time, she found joy in gardening, canning, and baking. A proud American and devoted family woman, Joan’s greatest love was her family, especially her two beloved grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Purser was preceded in death by sisters, Eveland Cleveland and Mary Ann Moss, and a brother, Milford Odell Garrett.

Mrs. Purser is survived by her husband, Charles Wayne Purser, whom she married on February 14, 1969; daughters, Amanda Loveless (Chris), and Martie Purser; grandchildren, Emily Drew Loveless and Eli Parker Loevless; brother, Charles E. “Tooter” Garrett. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Purser will be Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Bellview Baptist Church with Rev. Billy Swift officiating. Eulogies will be provided by family members. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Purser’s family will receive friends at Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home Tuesday evening, March 10, 2026, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.

Pallbearers will include Chris Loveless, Eli Loveless, Emily Loveless, Charles Dabbs, Robby Garrett, and Scotty Cleveland.
