Joel Felton Smith

Mr. Joel Felton Smith, age 72, of Rockmart, GA passed away Monday, March 23, 2020 at his residence following a lengthy illness.

He was born in Rome, GA on November 10, 1947, a son of the late Thomas Felton (T.F.) Smith and the late Edna Tabor Smith. Joel had been a resident of Polk County all of his life where he was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church. He was a member and Past Master of the Rockmart Lodge #97 F.&A.M., Past Master of the William G. England Daylight Lodge # 747, member of the Yaarab Shrine Temple and the Slate City Shrine Club. He also assisted with the Community Blood Drive for a number of years in Rockmart. Joel loved fishing and boating and working in his garden. He was a former employee of Lockheed-Martin Aircraft Corporation, was a former insurance agent with Life of Georgia Insurance Co. and worked in retail grocery with his family in the Triangle Grocery Store of Rockmart.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Hoyt Smith.

Survivors include his wife, Shelia Paschal Smith, Rockmart; four children: Shawn Smith, Rockmart, Kelly Smith (Jancey), Dallas, Jolie Smith, Dallas and Seth Smith, Cedartown; four brothers and sisters: Michael Smith (Virginia), Rockmart, Denise Smith, Dallas, Earl Smith( Christi), Rockmart and Nyoaka Atkins (Scott), Rockmart; two step sons: Chris Cole (Amy), Woodstock and Chad Cole (Tiffany), Rockmart; nine grandchildren and one great grandson; numerous nieces and nephews also survive..

In keeping with local, state and federal guidelines services will be private at the graveside in Polk Memory Gardens with Rev. Jonathan Blackmon officiating. Mr. Harold McDurmon will deliver Masonic Rites.
