John A. "Hippy" Austin

Mr. John A. “Hippy” Austin, age 68, of Dallas, GA, the Yorkville Community, passed away Wednesday afternoon, August 27, 2025.

Mr. Austin was born in Rockmart, Georgia, on November 30, 1956, the son of the late Rayford Austin and Cora Brown Austin. He spent the majority of his life in Polk and Paulding counties.

Affectionately known as “Hippy,” he retired after 38 years of dedicated service with Paulding County Fleet Maintenance as a heavy equipment mechanic.

Mr. Austin had a deep appreciation for the outdoors. He enjoyed gardening and had a special love for animals. Christmas also held a special place in his heart. Most of all, he cherished time spent with his family.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Austin was preceded in death by an infant brother; a brother, Rayford Austin, Jr.; sister, Mary Jane Lambert; niece, Tiffany Hicks Pope; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Hubert A. and Sallie E. Hicks; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Horace and Diane Gulledge; brother-in-law, George Haney and brother-in-law, Jeff Israel.

Hippy is survived by his wife, Becky “Red” Austin; daughter, Jenni Austin; sister, Shirley Haney; brother-in-law, Bill Lambert; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mike and Becky Hicks; sister-in-law, Susan Israel; special family member, Evelyn Ruff. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Austin will be held on Saturday afternoon, August 30, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. in the chapel of Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Jeremy Hicks officiating. Interment will follow in Yorkville Memorial Gardens with Rev. Kevin Hembree in charge of graveside rites.

Hippy’s family will receive friends at Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home Saturday from 2:00 p.m. until the service hour.

Pallbearers will include Noah Hicks, Levi Hicks, Peyton Thorpe, Nicholas Fennell, Trenton Boggs, and Fred Lindsey. Honorary pallbearers will include Jim Lindsey and Mike Hicks.

Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of the arrangements for Mr. John A. “Hippy” Austin.
