Mr. L.C. Cornwell, age 86, of Taylorsville, GA, passed away Thursday morning, December 18, 2025, at his residence.
Mr. Cornwell was born on September 8, 1939, in White, GA, to the late Oscar Lee Cornwell and Nannie Edna Lee Cornwell. He spent most of his life in Taylorsville, where he built not only a long career as a self-employed painter for more than 50 years, but also lasting friendships within the community. A proud veteran of the United States Army, Mr. Cornwell was a faithful and devoted member and deacon of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church, where he found great joy in worship and fellowship.
Known for his kind heart and willingness to help anyone in need, he loved painting, rabbit hunting, and spending time at church. Above all else, Mr. Cornwell treasured the time he shared with his family and grandchildren, who were the pride and joy of his life. His love, generosity, and gentle spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Cornwell was preceded in death by four brothers and seven sisters.
Mr. Cornwell is survived by his wife of 63 years, Wilma Joan Sutton Cornwell, whom he married December 15, 1962; two children, Felisa Gentry, and Jeff (Joy) Cornwell; grandchildren, Justin (Neta) Cornwell, Derek (Payton) Gentry, Jared (Olivia) Cornwell, Lance (Katie) Gentry, and Jacob (Katelyn) Cornwell; two brothers, K.O. Cornwell and Billy Wayne Cornwell. Thirteen great-grandchildren, special friends, Billy & Willene Ward, Rob & Diana Miller, and Keith & Cassandra Cook, along with several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Cornwell will be held on Saturday morning, December 20, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church with Rev. Brent Edwards and Rev. Billy Chambers officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Rev. Rob Miller in charge of graveside rites. Mr. Cornwell will lie in state at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the service hour.
Mr. Cornwell’s family will receive friends Friday evening, December 19, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will include Justin Cornwell, Derek Gentry, Jared Cornwell, Lance Gentry, Jacob Cornwell, and Billy Ward.
