Mary Norma Johnson

Mrs. Mary Norma Johnson, age 90, of Rockmart, GA, passed away on Wednesday, September 17, 2025.

Mrs. Johnson, born on November 2, 1934, in Cedartown, GA, was the beloved daughter of the late Samuel Richard Fortune and Essie Estell Key Fortune.

Mary spent the greater part of her life in Polk County. She deeply loved her family and cherished time spent with them. She enjoyed shopping, listening to gospel music, and often found joy in rearranging the furniture in her home. Her warmth, love, and lively spirit will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Leroy Johnson; sons, Jeff Johnson, and Homer Clay Johnson; daughters, Marsha Born, and Tammy Cassel; son-in-law, Randy Waits; grandson, Larry Jefferson Cannon, Jr.; and special companion, Leonard David Tidwell, Sr.

Mary is survived by her daughters, Norma Renne Garcia (Rogelio), Kim Denise Barber (Ricky), Rebecca Lynn Tidwell (Lenny), Shaun Camille Waits, and Beth Ann Daniel (Greg); grandchildren, Kelley Dover, Jason Cochran, Kip Cochran, Misty Childers, Mandy Shirey, Kayla Agan, Richelle Dodd, Jennifer Corn, Wendy Rogers, Mindy Barber, Chris Johnson, Brad Johnson, Candice McElwee, James Roberson, Jr., Brett Johnson, Evan Johnson, Buffey Waits, Brandy Cox, Jeremy Waits, David Barber, Jr., Ciji Jackson, Jeffery Milam, Cory Daniel, and Cheyanna Daniel. Numerous great and great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mary will be held on Friday, September 19, 2025, at 3:00 pm, in the Chapel of Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Tucker officiating, and Eulogy given by Kenny Dodd. Internment will follow in the Young’s Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Johnson’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Mary’s family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 1:00 pm until the service hour.
