Melvin G. Dyer

Mr. Melvin G. Dyer, age 89, of Rockmart, GA, passed away Saturday evening, October 5, 2024, at his residence.

Mr. Dyer was born in Rockmart on March 14, 1935, a son of the late Johnny G. Dyer and Odie Mae Lewis Dyer. He had lived the greater part of his life in Rockmart, was a 1953 graduate of Rockmart High School, and was retired from Lockheed-Martin following 33 years of service. Following retirement, Mr. Dyer was known to buy and sell real estate and enjoyed buying and selling cars.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Dyer was preceded in death by his wife, Mittie Knight Dyer, to whom he was married on July 31, 1955, two sons, Tim Dyer and Ronnie Dyer, and three sisters, Idell Dyer, Mozelle McBurnett, and Fronnie Mae Brown.

Mr. Dyer is survived by a daughter, Melba Dyer White and her husband, Stephen; two grandsons, Timothy Aaron Dyer and Jon Tyler Dyer; great-granddaughter, Azalea June Dyer.

Memorial services for Mr. Dyer will be held on Wednesday afternoon, October 9, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Dyer officiating.

Mr. Dyer’s family will receive friends at Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until the service hour.
