Michael Timothy Smith

Mr. Michael Timothy Smith, of Rockmart, Georgia, passed away on September 28, 2026, in Rockmart at the age of 72. He was born on January 16, 1954, in Nashville, Tennessee.

Michael was the owner and operator of a sawmill, and he was known as a man who appreciated hard work and a straightforward life. He was a simple man who loved the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting. He enjoyed a good story and was gifted at telling one himself. He also enjoyed black coffee and was a proud Mason. Those who knew him will remember a man whose life was marked by familiar pleasures, steady work, and the kind of presence that made others feel at home.

He is survived by his loving wife, Judy Smith, and by his daughter, Nikki Atkins and her husband, Griff. He also leaves behind his daughter-in-law, Dee Smith, his grandchildren, Bailey Atkins and Anniston, Kaleb Smith, Kamden Smith, Emma Klaire Shook and her husband, Matt, and Anna Kate Atkins. He is also survived by his siblings, Pinky Owens, Dr. Charlie Smith and his wife, Jan, and Ann Garrett and her husband, Michael. 

Michael was preceded in death by his beloved son, Joshua Smith; his father, Dr. Charles Smith; and his mother, Elaine Freson Smith. Their memories remained part of his life, and now they are joined with his once more.

Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on October 1, 2026, from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. at Rockmart Presbyterian Church. A Funeral service for Mr. Smith will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2026 at 4:00 PM in the Rockmart Presbyterian Church with Rev. Joe Brice and a eulogy given by Mr. Melton Moss. Mr. Smith will be laid to rest at Rose Hill Cemetery following the funeral service. 

Serving as pallbearers will be the following gentlemen: Griff Atkins, Bailey Atkins, Kaleb Smith, Kamden Smith, Matt Shook, Barry Cole and David Jackson. Serving as honorary pallbearer is Mr. Smiths late son, Joshua Smith. 

Michael Timothy Smith will be remembered with love for his devotion to family, his enjoyment of the outdoors, his stories, and the quiet, genuine way he lived his life. His memory will be treasured by all who knew and loved him.
