Obituary

Nena Elizabeth "Beth" Mears, age 75 years, of Forsyth, GA, passed away on Friday, June 26, 2026, at Emory St. Joseph's Hospital, Atlanta, Georgia.

Beth was born in Atlanta, on December 3, 1950, at the old Piedmont Hospital. The daughter of the late Paul A. Mears and Helen R. Mears, she spent some of her childhood years in Rockmart, Georgia and Florida, prior to her family's move to England and France. As a result of her father's Air Force duty assignments, Beth enjoyed several years during early adolescence living in quaint villages. She graduated from Garrett High School in Charleston, SC, in 1969, after her family moved back to the States.

Perhaps it was her time spent in Europe that fostered Beth's passionate love of learning, reading, and service to others. She loved to read and cherished all the books she owned. Beth moved back to Rockmart in the 1990s when she returned to college to study French, with a semester's study abroad in Dijon, France. After returning to the U.S., however, she changed her major to Nursing, completing her education at Floyd College, Rome, Georgia, earning a B.S. in Nursing.

A dedicated Registered Nurse, Beth devoted her career to caring for those in need, especially the elderly. She practiced nursing at Polk Medical Center in Cedartown and Northside Hospital in Macon. After settling in Forsyth, Georgia, where she owned a home and has lived for over thirty years, she moved up in her nursing positions to become a manager of nurses at nursing homes in the Forsyth area, until her retirement.

Beth's big heart and love of all living things in nature inspired her to have numerous pets over the years, including dogs and a baby piglet that she received one Christmas. She will be remembered by her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, as being the generous and happy Aunt Beth who made sure every Christmas was merry and bright.

Large families share a special bond, and Beth will be missed by her brothers, sister, sisters-in-law, and brother-in-law. Their shared history brings much love and joy of good times together in the past.

Most of all, Beth will be missed by Glenda Kimbro, her life-long partner of over thirty years, and Glenda's children, including daughters Chrissy McDavid (Tim), Connie Hollingsworth (Tim), son Gene Kimbro (Stephanie), and six grandchildren (Alicia, Tiffany, Alexa, Camren, Garrett, and Faith), Beth's much loved adopted family.

In addition to her parents, Beth was preceded in death by her brother John Mears of Rockmart, GA.

Surviving family members include brothers Gregory Mears (Billie); Gary Mears (Stephanie); Scott Mears (Candi); sister Becky Goodman (Fred); nieces Lauren (Kyle); Nena (Jeremy); Haley; nephews Eric (Hope); Nick (Melissa); Drew (Renee), and Lane; along with six great-nieces (Addison, Brooklyn, Ruth, Grace, Bentley, and Mila) and three great-nephew, (Eli, Cooper, and Everett).

A celebration of life and family memorial service will be held July 4th at 10:00 am at the residence of Scott, 874 Pine Pitch Road, Cedartown, Georgia, 30125. Beth's ashes will be scattered in several beautiful places in nature.

Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home & Crematory is honored to serve the family of Nena Elizabeth “Beth” Mears.
