Mr. Ollie Loyd Locklear, Sr., age 92, of Rockmart, GA, passed away Wednesday morning, May 27, 2026.
Mr. Locklear was born in Dallas on February 3, 1934, son of the late Rev. Fed Locklear and Rhodie Cooper Locklear. He had lived the greater part of his life in the Yorkville community and was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean War. Mr. Locklear served on the Paulding County School Board from 1978 until 1982 and was a founding member of the Yorkville Fire Department. He retired from General Motors after 30 years of service.
A devoted man of faith, Mr. Locklear was an active member of Crossroads Memorial Baptist Church for more than 50 years, where he faithfully served as a deacon and choir director. After moving his membership to New Prospect Baptist Church, he continued serving as assistant choir director and deacon.
Mr. Locklear had a deep love for gospel music and singing. While serving in the Army, he sang with the Kaiser Kowboys at Camp Kaiser in South Korea. He performed with the Gospel Aires singing group, served as co-chairman of the Fourth of July singing at the Paulding County Courthouse, and chaired numerous Saturday night singings throughout the years. He also loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, gardening, and sharing a good joke with family and friends. Above all, Mr. Locklear cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Locklear was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ruby Joan Brown Locklear and a son Clifford Branson Locklear. Ten brothers and two sisters also preceded him in death.
Mr. Locklear is survived by his children, Ollie Loyd Locklear, Jr. (Lori), Branson Locklear (Annette), David Locklear, and Joyce Hitchcock (Billy). Eight grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren three great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Locklear will be held on Saturday afternoon, May 30, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at New Prospect Baptist Church with Rev. Jason Purser officiating. Interment will follow in Yorkville Memorial Cemetery with military rites conferred by Brown-Wright Post #12 American Legion Honor Guard.
Mr. Locklear’s family will receive friends at Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home on Friday evening, May 29, 2026, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
Pallbearers will include Hess Locklear, William Locklear, Linda Locklear, Jessica Camp, Falinda Williams, Savannah Hitchcock, Josh Pittman, and Constance Brown. Honorary pallbearers will include Eric Camp, Jerry Morris, Larry Locklear, Ben Vaughn, Darrell Locklear, Keith Locklear, Todd Hayes, Penny Mathews, Carson Locklear, Caleb Locklear, Layla Locklear, Savannah Locklear, and Brennan Camp.
