Mr. Robert (Bobby) Sparks, age 83, of Rockmart, GA passed away Friday, April, 19, 2024.
Bobby was born in Rockmart, on November 27, 1940, a son of the late Robert Wesley Sparks and the late Lois Perry Sparks. He had lived the greater part of his life in Rockmart where he dedicated his life to the citizens of Polk County through law enforcement. Mr. Sparks started his career in law enforcement with the Rockmart Police Department where he worked his way up to Chief. He then went to work with the Polk County Police Department where he also worked his way up to serve as Chief. Bobby finished his career with the Polk County Sheriff's Office where he served as Sheriff of Polk County for eight years. In his free time, Bobby loved to golf, fish, and watch Atlanta Braves Baseball. He was a veteran of the United States Army Reserve and was a member of the Rockmart Masonic Lodge #97 F& AM.
In addition to his parents, Bobby was preceded in death by his wife, Bobbie Layunia Sparks; brother, Perry Sparks; and sister, Joyce Haney.
Bobby is survived by his three sons, Robert Gregory Sparks, Jeffrey Scott Sparks, and Christopher Todd Sparks; nine grandchildren, Sammy, Samantha, Starla, Taylor, Kirsi, Eli, Jesse, Corey, and Abigail; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Linda Heitt; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Sparks will be held Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Eddie Wyatt and Rev. Sammy Barrett officiating. Entombment will follow in Polk Memory Gardens with Brown-Wright Post #12 American Legion Honor Guard in charge of military graveside rites.
The family will receive friends Tuesday afternoon from 12:00 noon until the funeral hour at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will include Mike Sullivan, Jamie Newsome, Johnny Moats, Kelly McLendon, Kenny Dodd, Junior Carter, and Al Sharp.
