Ronald S. Chappell

Mr. Ronald Samuel Chappell, age 74, of 120 Smith Road, Taylorsville, GA passed away Monday, July 13, 2009 following an extended illness.


He was born in Taylorsville, GA on February 26, 1935 a son of the late Samuel Battles Chappell and Elmina Elizabeth Maxwell Chappell. Mr. Chappell had lived the greater part of his life in Bartow County and was a member of the Mt. Tabor Baptist Church. He was retired from Floyd County as a heavy equipment operator. Mr. Chappell was preceded in death by three brothers: Jessie Lee Chappell, Ralph Chappell and Ray Chappell and by three sisters: Frances Edwards, Josephine Shinall and Sandra Chappell.


Survivors include three daughters: Randy Sue Jones, Rome, Denelia Fay Chappell, Red Bud, TN and Donna Wagman, Athens, GA; one brother, Wilburn Chappell, Euharlee, GA; four sisters: Sarah Cain, Lindale, Jane Carter, Silver Creek, Brenda Copeland, Cass and Sharon Morrow, Cartersville; nine grandchildren and one great granddaughter.


Funeral services will be held Friday, July 17, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the Mt. Tabor Baptist Church with Rev. Sammy Hall officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Tabor Cemetery.


Mr. Chappell will lie instate at the church Friday from 1:00 p.m. until the funeral hour.


Active pallbearers will include: Herbert Goodman, Bob Allen, Jesse Chappell, Jim Chappell, John Chappell and Ray Chappell. Honorary pallbearers will include: Charlie Cox, L.C. Cornwell, Glenn Wimpey and Van Williams.


The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.


The Alvis Miler & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
