Mrs. Sallie Ruth “Granny” Gentry, age 95, of Taylorsville, GA, passed away Sunday morning, August 31, 2025.
Mrs. Gentry was born on March 6, 1930, in Aragon, Georgia, to the late Ambrose Floyd Womack and Maude Pauline Haney Womack. She spent the majority of her life in Taylorsville, where she was a devoted member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church from the age of 16. Affectionately known as “Granny,” she worked for 22 years in the lunchroom at Taylorsville School, where she touched many lives with her warm heart and kind spirit. She had a deep love for quilting, sewing, flower gardening, and cooking. Above all, she found joy in serving others with generosity and grace.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gentry was preceded in death by her husband, Willis Albert Gentry, sons, Wayne Gentry and Bobby Gentry, daughters, Evelyn Morris and Jeanette Dover, grandchildren, Angie Morris and Ray Sullivan, Jr., and brothers, Charles Womack, and Walter Womack.
Granny is survived by two daughters, Carol Sue (Ray, Sr.) Sullivan, and Willene (Billy) Ward; grandchildren, Valarie (Benny) Brittian, Yvette (Chuck) Moore, Rhonda (Jason) Cochran, Lauren (Derek) Bentley, Tony (Garen) Morris, Bobby (Lynne) Gentry, Jr., and Rickey Dover; brother, Robert “Bug” Womack; sister, Nancy (Franklin) Yarbrough. Numerous great-grandchildren, including Mason Roberson (her best friend), and numerous great-great-grandchildren also survives.
Funeral services for Mrs. Gentry will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Brent Edwards and Rev. Billy Chambers officiating. Interment will follow in Bethel Crossroads Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Gentry’s family will receive friends at Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the service hour.
Pallbearers will include “Her Buddies”, Elijah Bagley, Titus Bagley, Issiah Bagley, Branson Mincey, Dalton Spires, and Keith Cook.
