Mrs. Sue B. Thomason, age 80, of Rockmart, GA, passed away Saturday morning, August 9, 2025, at her residence.
Sue was born on June 3, 1945, in Aragon, Georgia, the beloved daughter of the late Cecil Benefield and Gaynell Walker Wood. A lifelong resident of Polk County, Sue was a dedicated and faithful member of the Church of God of the Union Assembly, where she actively led and supported various ladies' ministries.
Sue was a hardworking and resourceful woman who devoted her life to serving others. She held numerous roles throughout her life, including working with the Riverwood Retirement Center and the Polk School District. She also spent many years in the Home Healthcare industry.
Sue’s entrepreneurial spirit shone through as the former owner of Kimberly’s Bakery in Rockmart, and as a talented seamstress she created custom draperies for dozens of businesses. After the bakery closed, she continued to provide private catering including creating beautiful wedding cakes. A passionate cook, and avid card player — especially enjoying games of Phase 10 and Canasta — Sue brought joy and creativity into everything she did.
Sue lived with a servant’s heart, cooking countless meals, caring for families, and always putting the needs of others before her own. She constantly sought God for ways to bless others.
Sue believed God’s Word, lived it daily, and showed incredible faith and strength in every season. She would do anything for anyone and was often the first to volunteer to help. She taught us to love well, serve joyfully, and trust fully.
Her life was a testament to resilience, service, and love — qualities that touched everyone who knew her.
In addition to her parents, Sue was preceded in death by a son, Steve Thomason, and a sister, Shirley Brown.
Sue is survived by her loving husband of fifty-four years, Kenneth Thomason, whom she married on July 17, 1971; daughters, Kimberly (Gary) Freeman, Kisha (Lamont) Kiser, Tandalea (Wilian) Mendez, Vicki Thomason (Wayne Wilkey); and Maeghan (Dave) Mapes; son, Scott (Karen) Seipel; grandchildren, Hayden Freeman (Dylan Tomlin), Cortney (Noah) Sims, Connor (Olivia) Kiser, Taylor (Kenneth) Tate, Travis Freeman, Britney Mendez, Alex Mendez, Jacob Mendez, and Michael Thomason; great-grandchildren, Parker Tomlin, Natalee Sims, and Anniston Kiser; sisters, Bobbie Allen and Ruth Shirah. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
