Thomas Edward (Ed) Cosby, Sr.

Mr. Thomas Edward (Ed) Cosby, Sr., age 70, of 414 Hendrix Road, Rockmart passed away Monday, March 30, 2009 in a Rome Medical Center following an extended illness.


He was born in Haralson County, GA on July 30, 1938 a son of Joe Thomas Cosby and Ruby Lee Kelly Cosby. Mr. Cosby had been a resident of Polk County the greater part of his life and was of the Baptist faith. He was a retired truck driver and construction contractor. Mr. Cosby was preceded in death by his mother, Mrs. Ruby Cosby on September 22, 2006 and by a brother, Jimmy Cosby on May 8, 1955.


Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Jacqueline Atkins Cosby of Rockmart to whom he was married on June 9, 1956; two daughters: Mrs. Carol Morgan, Valdosta, GA and Mrs. Sylvia Floyd, Rockmart; three sons: Mr. Thomas Cosby, Jr, Rockmart, Mr. Bobby Joe Cosby, Abilene, TX and Mr. Douglas Earl Cosby, Arnoldsville, GA; father, Mr. Joe Cosby, Rockmart; 10 grandchildren and three great grandchildren also survive.


Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 2, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Buddy Privett officiating. Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery.


The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.


In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial gifts be made to the American Cancer Society.
