Thomas J. Hayes

Mr. Thomas J. Hayes, age 84, of Rockmart, GA passed away Monday, May 27, 2013 at his residence.

He was born in Paulding County, GA on April 19, 1929, a son of the late Homer Hayes and the late Ella Rataree Hayes. Mr. Hayes had lived the greater part of his life in Polk County where he was a member of the Van Wert Baptist Church. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy having served his country in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. During his working career he worked as a mechanic at Guy Sloan Motor Company and at Atlanta Dairies. He last worked as a security guard with Cagle?s. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers.

Survivors include his companion, Mrs. Mary Goolsby, Rockmart; two daughters: Mrs. Deborah Sorrells and Mrs. Rhonda Williams, both of Rockmart; three sons: Mr. Lamar Hayes, Mr. Michael Hayes and Mr. Ricky Hayes, all of Rockmart; one step son, Mr. Lee Weldon, Carrollton; 14 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren and 2 step grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Dunn officiating. Interment will follow in the Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery of Paulding County.

Pallbearers will include: Lamar Hayes, Lynn Hulsey, Jimmy Hulsey, Shannon Hayes, Jonathan Hayes, Rocky Hayes and Dale Bailey.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
