Tommy Montgomery

Mr. Tommy Montgomery, age 69, of Rockmart, GA passed away Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at his residence following an extended illness.

Tommy was born in Rome, GA on February 16, 1947 a son of the late Robert Fulton Montgomery and Hattie Mae Obar Montgomery. He had lived in Polk County the greater part of his life and was a member of the Morning View Baptist Church. Tommy was ordained as a Baptist minister at the age of eighteen and had served as Pastor of : Providence Baptist Church, Forney, AL, Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, Pine Log, Northside Baptist Church, Dallas, Rex Memorial Baptist Church, Morrow and New Canaan Baptist Church, Rome.

He loved to play the piano and sing and had been a member of the Lamp Lighters Quartet and the Christian Aires Quartet. He also loved to play golf. Tommy was a devoted husband and father who loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

During his working career he had been employed by Lockheed Air Craft Corporation; General Motors Corporation, where he worked for sixteen years; he was the owner of Montgomery Insulation for thirty five years; was the former owner of Fulton Corner Shopping Center and Economy Storage and worked with his wife as a homebuilder in the business, "Homes By Brenda" for a number of years.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Lloyd Montgomery and a sister, Faye Christopher Clemmons.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Brenda Montgomery to whom he was married on March 14, 1964; five children: Tony Montgomery and wife Aletha. Donna Brown and husband Rob, Tim Montgomery and wife Candi, Crissy Lewis and husband Neil and Missy Harris; sister, Shirley Jean Carter and husband Wilbert; 16 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 26, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Dyer and Rev. Jeff Hulsey officiating. Eulogies will be given by his sons: Tony and Timmy Montgomery. Interment will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery with Rev. Gary Ingram officiating.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers and include: David Brown, Matt Montgomery, Mark Montgomery, T.J. Montgomery, Andrew Lewis, Triston Montgomery, Landon Brown and Levi Harris.

The family will receive friends Friday prior to the service from 12 noon until 3:00 pm .at the funeral home.
