Wendi Renee Ludwig (Lester), age 47, passed away on January 22, 2026. She was born on May 15, 1978, in North Georgia. Wendi grew up in Rockmart, Georgia, and later made her home in Saint Augustine, Florida. She was a proud graduate of Darlington High School, Class of 1996, and went on to attend West Georgia College, where she earned her cosmetology license. Guided by a deep desire to care for others, she later earned her CNA and worked at Kennestone Hospital in the Emergency Room where her compassion and dedication touched countless lives.
During her childhood, Wendi loved going to church and was especially active in her youth group at First Baptist Church of Rockmart, where her faith, friendships, and joyful spirit were nurtured.
From a young age, Wendi radiated artistry and grace. She studied ballet for many years, cheered in high school, and was endlessly crafty and creative. She was also an incredible cook who found joy in feeding others—one of the many ways she showed her love. Caring for people came naturally to her, and she had a rare ability to make everyone feel seen, valued, and deeply loved.
Wendi was truly the light of everyone’s world. She lit up every room she entered with her warmth, laughter, and generous spirit. Above all, she was an amazing daughter, mother, wife, sister, aunt, and friend. Her love leaves an immeasurable mark on all who knew her.
In her final act of selflessness, Wendi was able to donate her liver, giving the gift of life and hope to others—an enduring reflection of the generous and compassionate way she lived.
She was preceded in death by her father, James L. Lester (“Jimmy”), and her sister, Stephanie Lester. She is survived by her loving mother, Beth Fannin Lester; her husband, Matthew Ludwig; her children, Stephen Gibbs and Seth Gibbs; her brothers, Luke Lester and Chris Lester; her sisters-in-law, Regina Lester and Sandy Lester; and many extended family members and friends who loved her dearly.
Wendi’s favorite place to be was near the Ocean—and that will be her final resting place where she will once again help replenish the fragile tropical reefs ecosystem.
Celebration of Life Services for Wendi will be held at Coosa Country Club, 110 Branham Ave., SW, Rome, GA 30161. Dates and times will be announced later.
